The Mothman

Subclass of: Warlock

Warlocks bound by the Pact of the Mothman align themselves with a being shrouded in mystery and omens. The Mothman, a legendary entity known for its connection to tragedy and premonitions of disaster, offers its followers the ability to glimpse the fringes of fate and manipulate the threads of potential futures. These warlocks are often seen as harbingers, their presence stirring whispers of impending calamity, yet they understand their role as agents of change, steering events according to the inscrutable will of their patron. Their powers reflect this eerie guardianship over fate: from the ability to see in the darkest nights with the eyes of the Mothman, to summoning swarms of moths to lift them into the air, echoing their patron's eldritch presence. They gain access to spells that allow them to peer through the veil of time, sow fear in the hearts of their enemies, and even conjure devastating plagues of insects. As they grow in power, they can shroud themselves in protective swarms and ultimately, twist the fabric of reality itself, reshaping events to avert disaster or ensure their patron's cryptic designs come to fruition. Followers of the Mothman tread a lonely path, marked by the solemn responsibility to witness and sometimes avert the shadows that loom on the horizon.

Your patron is one of mystery and allure, a living legend - known by different names in various cultures around the world, but known to you as the Mothman. This entity is one followed by tragedy, the alteration of fate, and fear. Many believe your connection with Mothman means tragedy follows you wherever you go, but you know that you and your patron are warping fate to his will, whether for good or ill.

Expanded Spell List

The Mothman lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.

Celestial Expanded Spells

1st cryptid creep, fog cloud
2nd gust of wind, moonbeam
3rd clairvoyance, fear
4th divination, phantasmal killer
5th insect plague, legend lore

Eyes of the Mothman

1st-level Pact of the Mothman feature

You take on the eyes of your patron, and gain darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray. If you already possess darkvision, its range increases by 60 feet.

Wings of the Mothman

1st-level Pact of the Mothman feature

Your connection to the Mothman allows you to conjure a plethora of moths that carry you aloft as a bonus action. After summoning these moths you gain a flying speed of 30 feet while you are not wearing medium or heavy armor. These moths can be dispelled as a bonus action or otherwise last 3 rounds.

If you already possess flight, its range increases by 10 feet while you are carried aloft by the moths.

Foresight of the Mothman

6th-level Pact of the Mothman feature

You can call upon the Mothman to grant you a glimpse into the future. You learn the spell augury. It counts as a warlock spell for you, but it doesn't count against the number of spells you know. You can also cast it once without using a spell slot, and you regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest.

Whenever you cast this spell, your patron's magic bolsters you, granting you a number of temporary hit points equal to your proficiency bonus.

Shadow of the Mothman

10th-level Pact of the Mothman feature

You are able to use your connection to the Mothman to protect yourself in times of need. In response to being attacked , you are able to call forth a cloud of moths as a reaction. These moths encircle you as they fly around you in a 10 foot radius centered on you for 1 minute. Any hostile creature moving through this cloud of moths considers the area difficult terrain, and the area the moths occupy is considered heavily obscured for creatures other than you. The moths can be dispelled as a bonus action. The moths also absorb damage from spells or effects that have an area of effect, turning the swarm into the target instead of you. The moths can absorb damage equal to one half your hit points from spells or effects with an area effect that would effect you, the moths dissipating when this damage is dealt. Any additional damage carries over to you.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Twist Fate

14th-level Pact of the Mothman feature

You use your patron's powers to warp the fabric of reality. You undo a single recent event by forcing a reroll of any roll made within the last round (including your last turn).

Reality reshapes itself to accommodate the new result. For example, Twist Fate could undo an opponent's successful save, a foe's critical hit, or a friend's failed save. You can force the reroll to be made with advantage or disadvantage, and you can choose whether to use the reroll or the original roll.

Once you have used this feature you cannot use it again until you finish a long rest.
