Path of Mutability

Subclass of: Barbarian

Barbarians who tread the Path of Mutability wield the arcane ability to alter their physical form, transcending the ordinary limits of size and stature in the heat of battle. These warriors draw upon a rare and magic, enabling them to shrink to the size of a child to evade and stealthily approach their enemies or to tower over the battlefield like titans, crushing foes underfoot. This gift of mutability, often attributed to encounters with the arcane forces on isles inhabited by behemoths or through mysterious rites, grants them unparalleled versatility and adaptability. As they grow in power, their mastery over this mutable form deepens, allowing them to swiftly respond to the tides of combat by becoming nimbler or more formidable as the situation demands.

Barbarians of the path of mutability have been blessed with strange magic that allows them to shift their size. Many barbarians have chosen to use this powerful blessing to gain the upper hand against their enemies, shrinking to diminutive sizes to stalk and hide from their prey, or growing to become massive, easily slaying their quarries. Whether choosing to diminish or expand their size, these barbarians use their mutable forms to triumph over their foes. Many of these barbarians obtained their abilities on strange isles of great behemoths, magic imbuing them with their powers.

Mutability

3rd-level Path of Mutability feature

You can choose to grow larger or smaller while you are raging. When you enter your rage, you can choose to change your size. While your size is changed, everything you are wearing and carrying changes size with you. Any item dropped by you remains enlarged or reduced in size until you return to your normal size. When changing your size, you can choose to enlarge or reduce your size by one size category up or down (from Tiny to Small, Small to Tiny, Medium to Large, Medium to Small, Large to Huge, Huge to Large, Huge to Gargantuan, or Gargantuan to Huge.) If there isn’t enough room for you to double your size, you attain the maximum possible size in the space available. You remain this size for the duration of your rage, and cannot change back your normal size before your rage has ended. While your size is changed, you are granted certain benefits and drawbacks as follows:

Enlarged. While you are enlarged, your size doubles in all dimensions, and your weight is multiplied by eight for each size category you change.

Reduced. While you are reduced, your size halves in all dimensions, and your weight is reduced to one-eighth your normal weight for each size category you change.

Increased Mutability

6th-level Path of Mutability feature

You are more accustomed to changing your size. You can change your size when you enter your rage and can also change your size as a bonus action while raging. You cannot alter your size more than one size category above or below your original size using this feature.

You gain the following additional benefits while your size is changed:

Enlarged. You can take the Shove attack action as a bonus action.

Reduced. You are much more nimble in your smaller size, creature’s spaces do not count as difficult terrain for you, and your AC is considered 2 higher against opportunity attacks.

Enhanced Mutability

10th-level Path of Mutability feature

When you change size during your rage, (either when entering your rage or as a bonus action during your rage) you can now alter your size up to two size categories larger or smaller (from Small to Large for example). You gain the following additional benefits while your size is changed:

Enlarged. You can make an extra attack on your turn against a creature that is prone.

Reduced. You are increasingly nimble, you gain a long jump equal to four times your Strength score, and can make a long jump without having to move 10 feet before the jump. You also gain a high jump equal to 3 + your Strength modifier multiplied by 4.

Perfected Mutability

14th-level Path of Mutability feature

When you change size during your rage, (either when entering your rage or as a bonus action during your rage) you can now alter your size from any size to another (from Tiny to Gargantuan for example).

If you are in a space that would not normally allow you to reach the dimensions you desire, you are still able to change your size. If you are too large to fit inside the structure, creature, Object, or Vehicle you are inside, you are restrained until you can fit inside it again. A structure, Object, Vehicle, or creature that you are inside of when you change size to a size that could not contain you takes damage equal to your double your Constitution modifier + double your proficiency bonus + your rage damage. At the Game Master’s discretion, changing size (for example from Tiny to Gargantuan after being swallowed by a giant frog) might cause the structure, creature, Object, or Vehicle you are inside of to explode, instantly slain or destroyed.
