College of Masks
Bards of the College of Masks are shapeshifters through archetype and theater. Their magic draws from ancient legends and cultural roles - like the Maiden, the Trickster, or the Warrior - and manifests as literal or metaphorical masks. These masks grant them specialized power and transform their presence entirely. Whether carved from wood or a twinge in a smile, their masks are visible to others, radiating a distinct change in presence.
Masked Persona (3rd Level)
You craft three magical masks - literal or metaphorical - that grant you temporary powers when assumed. As a bonus action, you can don one mask. It remains active until you finish a Short or Long Rest or use a bonus action to change it. At this level, you may shift masks once per Short or Long Rest.
Each mask grants a unique feature:
The Warrior.
You gain proficiency in Martial Weapons if you don’t already have it.
Once per turn when you hit with a weapon attack, you can deal extra damage equal to your Bardic Inspiration die.
While this mask is active, you can use Charisma instead of Strength when making attack rolls.
The Trickster.
You gain advantage on Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) and Charisma (Deception) checks.
You can cast Disguise Self once without expending a spell slot. You regain this ability after a Short or Long Rest.
While this mask is active, you can take the Hide action as a bonus action once per turn.
The Maiden (or Muse).
You can expend your Bardic Inspiration as a bonus action to grant temporary hit points equal to your Charisma modifier + the Bardic Inspiration die to one creature you can see within 30 feet.
You have advantage on Wisdom (Insight) and Charisma (Performance) checks.
While this mask is active, creatures have disadvantage on saving throws against your enchantment spells.
You can create additional masks at higher levels.
Shifting Persona (6th Level)
You can now shift personas more freely.
When you roll initiative, you may immediately change your mask as part of the same reaction.
You can change masks as a bonus action twice per Short or Long Rest.
Additionally, once per Long Rest, you may use two masks at once for 1 minute. While doing so, you gain the passive benefits of both but can only use the active ability of one per turn.
Legendary Roles (10th Level)
You refine your archetypes to legendary status. Each mask gains a unique upgrade:
Warrior. When you use your Bardic Inspiration on a weapon attack, the target must succeed on a Strength saving throw (DC = 8 + PB + Charisma mod) or be knocked prone.
Trickster. You can cast Mirror Image once per Long Rest. While the mask is active, your movement doesn't provoke opportunity attacks.
Maiden. When a creature you granted temp HP to is hit by an attack, it can use its reaction to gain resistance to that damage.
Additional Masks (10th Level)
You gain an additional mask of choice.
The Oracle. Gain proficiency in Insight and Arcana. Once per Long Rest, you can cast Augury without a spell slot or components.
Master of Many Faces (14th Level)
You have become a living drama. You can now change masks as a bonus action any number of times per day.
When you change masks, you can also immediately use one of the mask’s active features without expending an action or bonus action.
Whenever you use Bardic Inspiration, choose a creature who can see or hear you. That creature must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or believe they are interacting with a legendary figure, gaining the Frightened or Charmed condition (your choice) for 1 minute. (They repeat the save at the end of each turn.)
