College of Jest

Bards of the College of Jest are masters of comedic magic and calculated absurdity. Whether clad in bells, bold colors, or sly grins, they blur the line between laughter and lunacy. Their antics may seem foolish, but behind every pratfall lies a sharp wit and a sharper intent. These bards are irresistible performers, weaving charm and chaos in equal measure.

Center of Attention (3rd Level)

When you cast a Bard spell that affects only one creature, you can mark yourself as “The Act.” Until the start of your next turn, attacks made by that creature against targets other than you are made with disadvantage.

Act of Laughter (3rd Level)

As an action, you can perform a quick comedic display (slapstick, insult, mimicry, etc.) directed at a creature within 60 feet who can see and hear you. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC = 8 + PB + Cha mod) or fall into uncontrollable laughter, affected by the Tasha’s Hideous Laughter spell (no components required). The condition lasts for 1 minute or until the target saves at the end of its turns. This does not require a spell slot and does not count as casting a spell.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.

Tumbling Trickster (6th Level)

When you move at least 10 feet in a straight line toward a creature, you can immediately use a bonus action to attempt to distract them. Choose one:

  • Feint. Gain advantage on your next spell attack against the target.

  • Mock Fall. The target makes a Wisdom save or has disadvantage on their next saving throw before the end of your next turn.

Rolling Laughter (6th Level)

When a creature succeeds on a saving throw against Act of Laughter, they still suffer a penalty: their next attack roll or ability check is made with disadvantage.

Chaotic Crescendo (10th Level)

You weaponize the audience's attention and turn mockery into disruption.

When you deal psychic damage, or when a creature fails a Wisdom saving throw caused by one of your Bard spells or features, you can choose one:

  • The target falls prone.

  • The target is deafened and has its movement speed reduced to 0 until the end of its next turn.

  • The target is blinded to anything outside of a 90 degree cone centered on you until its next turn.

Additionally, if you are targeted by a spell and you can see the caster, you can use your reaction to perform a dramatic gesture or jest. The caster must succeed on a Wisdom save or choose a new target within range (other than you) or waste the spell.

Grand Finale (14th Level)

Your performances are so absurd, terrifying, or emotionally overwhelming that they can unravel reason.

As an action once per Long Rest, you can perform a Grand Finale—a stunning crescendo of magical comedy, tragicomedy, or nonsense (you decide the flavor).

Every creature of your choice within 30 feet who can see or hear you must make a Wisdom saving throw.

On a failure, the creature is incapacitated by laughter, sobbing, or stunned awe for 1 minute (save at end of each turn). On a success, the creature is distracted and has disadvantage on attack rolls and saving throws until the end of its next turn.
