College of Bone

Bards of the College of Bone are oracles of fate, seers who divine destiny through the casting of carved bones, knuckle dice, and ancestral relics. These performers weave cryptic tales of what may come, drawing power from patterns in the unknown. Their rituals straddle performance and prophecy, offering eerie insights and uncanny control over chance itself.

Bone-Casting Rituals (3rd Level)

You gain proficiency in Insight and one of the following tools: Dice set, Calligrapher’s supplies, or a set of carved divination bones (a custom tool).

You can use your casting bones as a spellcasting focus for your Bard spells.

Fortune's Whisper
When you finish a short or long rest, roll 1d6 and record the result secretly. Until the next rest, you can replace any attack roll, saving throw, or ability check made by a creature you can see within 60 feet with this result as a reaction.

You must choose to use this ability before the roll is made. Once used, the die is expended. You can use this feature once per rest.

Bones of Omen (3rd Level)

You can twist fate through ominous improvisation. As a bonus action, you can expend one use of Bardic Inspiration to roll a special Omen Die (d6).

Choose one creature you can see within 60 feet. Roll the Omen Die and choose to apply it to one of the following:

  • Subtract the result from the creature’s next d20 roll (attack, check, or save).

  • Add the result to an ally’s saving throw or ability check.

  • Delay a creature’s reaction until the end of its next turn (if it hasn’t used it).

You must choose the effect immediately after rolling the die.

Cryptic Reading (6th Level)

Your readings begin to draw upon deeper threads of fate. You gain the ability to perform a 1-minute ritual with your bones to receive a fragment of insight.

After the ritual, roll 2d6 and consult the table below. You learn a cryptic message from your muse (the DM provides the flavor). You gain one of the following benefits (your choice, based on the result):

2–3 A bad omen – Disadvantage to one roll (your choice) made in the next 10 minutes.
4–5 A warning – +2 bonus to AC or saving throws against the next source of damage.
6–8 Neutral vision – Reroll one failed saving throw in the next hour.
9–10 Favor of fate – Next Bardic Inspiration die used grants advantage on the recipient's next attack.
11–12 Clear insight – Choose a creature you can see. You learn one of its resistances, vulnerabilities, or current HP range (rounded to the nearest 10).

You can perform this ritual once per long rest.

Thread Cutter’s Chorus (10th Level)

Your words can fray the threads of fate in real time. When a creature within 30 feet succeeds on a saving throw or avoids an effect through a high roll, you can use your reaction and expend a Bardic Inspiration die to force a reroll, applying your Bardic Inspiration die as a penalty to the second result.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all uses after a long rest.

Bones Know Best (14th Level)

Your connection to fate becomes undeniable. When you roll Bardic Inspiration, Omen Dice, or Fortune’s Whisper, you can roll twice and choose either result.

In addition, when a creature you can see within 30 feet fails a d20 test, you can cast divination or augury as a reaction (if you know the spell), without expending a spell slot or material components.

Once you use the free casting of divination or augury in this way, you cannot do so again until you finish a long rest.
